Habit Making: How Change Works

January can be an overwhelming month! New goals at work and personal resolutions motivate us to act above & beyond our usual daily tasks. All the hard work and striving to be our best selves cause stress and eventually lead to giving up on our goals. How do we cope with the stress and exhaustion? Push even harder!

That’s right! It’s important to continue doing whatever it is that is making you feel miserable, especially since it’s the thought of giving up on yourself causing the most pain. I’ve found this is true with exercising. It takes time and sweat to see results in the mirror. If we can move past that feeling of “I can’t do this anymore,” we increase our chance of success significantly!!!

Motivation is a temporary emotion, so we have to constantly push when it begins to die out. Only then we start forming actual HABITS. Habits are a system that becomes a part of our lives and define our character. Pushing past the physical pain and mental negativity helps us shape the lifestyle we have always imagined for ourselves! So don’t give up, especially when you feel like it the most. Instead of saying “I can’t do this anymore, it’s making me unhappy,” say “I can’t do this anymore, but I’m going to anyway.” Never underestimate the power of words and self talk. It’s what can carry you past the hardest obstacles…

Continue doing what you do, believe you can be the best version of yourself, and before you know it you will be!
